With social isolation higher than ever before the work of the Furzedown Project is quite simply invaluable in improving the health, well-being, and independence of older people in the borough of Wandsworth. It is an honour to be supporting this organisation in their search for a Project Director to lead the charity in achieving its mission by the delivery of a lively programme of events and activities.
The Furzedown Project is a social hub for the over fifties, aiming to ensure that older people of all ages, from all parts of the local community, can participate,find new friendship and connection, overcome isolation, improve social and physical wellbeing and contribute to our community. We run a range of social, educational, recreational and health-promoting activities at the centre, many led by our members, as well as offering a home visiting service that gives friendship and conversation to people who find it difficult to get out of their own homes. This holistic service which maximises the participation of its members in the planning and delivery of its activities, plays a vital role in tackling social isolation are looking for an exceptional person to lead the project through the next exciting phase in its journey!
As Project Director you will be tasked with the exciting challenge of developing and maintaining a range of community services and support for older people. Along with ensuring the smooth running of the Project you will also be responsible for the development and implementation of a funding strategy for the organisation and required to produce budgets and other financial reports. You will be accountable for the overall strategic management of staff and volunteers and also be required to develop good working relationships with other voluntary and statutory organisations in the area. This is a varied and interesting role that will enable the successful applicant the opportunity to play an invaluable role in leading the Project and ultimately improving the health and well-being of elderly people across the borough!
To be considered for this role you should come to us with experience of strategic organisational management, preferably within a charity setting and of setting strategic work objectives, monitoring and evaluating progress. You should also have experience of designing, managing, and evaluating projects and services and experience preparing funding applications and overseeing fundraising. A strong and confident communicator, you should possess the ability to manage and motivate a team of staff and volunteers. Perhaps most importantly you should be passionate about the work of the Furzedown Project and be an inspiring leader determined to enable older people to connect and overcome isolation.
The role is permanent and full-time and based at the charity’s premises on the Tooting and Streatham borders.
