The novel for the meeting on Tuesday 8 November is Ten Days by Gillian Slovo. The author, Slovo was born in South Africa. Her father was Joe Slovo, the leader of the communist party in South Africa and an anti apartheid activist. Her mother was Ruth First, a journalist who was murdered in 1982 for her anti apartheid activism. This novel takes place in London during a riot similar to the London ones five years ago.
‘A powerful and unputdownable thriller tracing a riot from its inception through to its impact one year on.’ This has had mixed reviews, it’s this year’s London CityRead selection, so will be keen to read and discuss it.
The Project Bookclub sessions cost £2, teas are 50p and books are available from the local librarian who leads the group. New readers welcome
– we’re a friendly group and always happy to hear new ideas and get suggestions for other novels.
