Gardener’s Group

Garden

The Project Gardener’s Group is for anyone interested in gardening – meeting once a month on Thursday evenings (usually the third Thursday of the month) at The Project to chat about gardening and share what green initiatives are going on in the area, including how to support the Furzedown Farmers. There will be regular email updates from Debbie about green initiatives in the area.

In March 2024 we launched the Furzedown Farmers community vegetable plot at Streatham Park Bowling Club.

We have harvested 32kg of produce since June 2024, including yummy, organic vegetables:  new potatoes, curly kale, carrots, beetroot, Savoy cabbage, sprouts, parsnips, runner beans and apples, which we are selling to Project members.

We have enjoyed visits to local places including Graveney School Orchard, Transition Town Tooting Community Garden, North Mitcham Plot Owners’ Association, Fulham Palace gardens tour, and members’ gardens.  We have had speakers about the local seed swap and pruning, and watched informative videos and had interesting discussions about what to grow and jobs to do in every season.  Also, there was an apple pressing session outside the Project in August and everyone, including the kids, loved helping out.  The juice was plentiful and delicious!

Can you spare a couple of hours?  Gardening volunteers are needed every Tuesday 2.30pm – 4:30pm at the Streatham Park Bowling club, Pringle Gardens SW16 1SH. Help harvest, weed, water and clear our veg patch or come to enjoy the lovely green space and learn more. Beginners welcome!
