We are one of five groups in the ITV region in the running for a share of almost £250,000 of funding. If successful, The Furzedown Project will use the money to start the Furzedown Farmers initiative – which will support volunteers to befriend lonely adults whilst teaching them how to grow vegetables in their gardens or window boxes. The produce will be distributed in the community. This community of gardeners will also have the opportunity to experience outdoor adapted tai chi sessions to help with their mobility, mindfulness and support friendship groups.
On Monday 15 May, The Furzedown Project will showcase its initiative – Furzedown Farmers – on ITV London News at 6pm, or you can view it HERE: www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk/projects/view/furzedown-farmers

Sandra Shaw, Exercise Consultant , Furzedown Project said: “The People’s Projects has given us an amazing opportunity to raise awareness and support for our work and, with your help, secure this additional much-needed funding. If we win, our project will make a real difference to our local community by enabling us to buy more resources and therefore being able to reach out to more local residents to help them cope with loneliness whilst at the same time improving their physical health. We now need local people to get behind us, to show their support and vote.”
David Knott, Chief Executive of The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “The People’s Projects delivers much-needed funding to the heart of communities and showcases the incredible efforts of hard-working projects across the UK. The short-listed groups are truly inspirational, each delivering life-changing support to their community in different ways. It is now time for the public to have their say in how vital National Lottery funding is used in their area to make a difference to people’s lives, particularly in these challenging times.”
